Marketplace Item Conditions - Books

Marketplace sellers must list the condition of the books they’re selling on Walmart.com when they create a listing.

Items Listed as New

  • New: The book is new, unread, and unused in perfect condition and includes all supplemental materials (E.g., digital codes for textbooks).

Items Listed as Pre-Owned

  • Like New: The book appears new but has been read with very minimal signs of use. The cover has no visible wear. If applicable, hard covers come with their dust jacket.
    • Item has no missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no markings such as underlining, highlighting, or writing in margins.
    • Pre-Owned textbooks don’t require the inclusion of supplemental materials.
  • Good: Book has been read and shows minimal signs of wear like an owner's inscription or discoloration, but no tearing and all pages are present.
    • Pre-Owned textbooks don’t require the inclusion of supplemental materials.
  • Fair: The book has possible discoloration, creasing, or small tears, and may not contain non-vital pages like endpapers but its integrity is still intact.
    • There may be underlining and highlighting of text and writing in the margins.
    • Pre-Owned textbooks do not require the inclusion of supplemental materials.
