Socialite Lady Mary Charteris has opened up about her harrowing experience with a mystery illness that left her bedridden, unable to eat for 10 days - and struggling with post-viral depression and anxiety.
The 38-year-old London-based model and aristocrat, whose father is the 13th Earl of Wemyss, shared an emotional video on TikTok revealing the mental toll the illness has taken.
'Can I just please tell anyone who gets this illness to be warned that you deal with a serious amount of depression and anxiety in the days post illness,' she said.
'I guess the depression is from your body fighting so hard to fight this infection that you're just left depleted of serotonin and dopamine and just the things that regulate your mood.'
Lady Mary, who has a four-year-old daughter, Wilde, with musician husband Robbie Furze, added that she had a meltdown during a recent visit to the doctor, who failed to diagnose her.
'They didn't know what was wrong with me,' she explained. 'We hoped it was flu or COVID, but it wasn't. I banged my head on the wall in the waiting room and just burst into tears.'
The timing couldn't have been worse, as the illness struck just before her birthday on Wednesday.
'I called my husband expecting some sympathy, and he didn't quite understand how upset I was. I was like, I just don't want to be sad… I don't want to be ill on my birthday.'

She continued: 'You think you're out of the woods of the illness. You think you're feeling better, and then you get mega depressed and feel really alone. So I'm just warning anyone who gets this to be prepared for that symptom.'
The illness itself, she said, was 'a week of absolute hell' with symptoms including a cold, sore throat, headaches, nausea, stabbing pains and no appetite.
'I haven't eaten properly for 10 days,' she said, adding that now she feels slightly better - 'so I'm really happy I can finally eat my Dubai chocolate again.'
Speaking from her hotel room at the famous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, Lady Mary added that she managed to rally slightly for her birthday celebrations – but knew the emotional aftermath was looming.
'I put on a brave face and didn't feel too bad today. I'll probably pay for it later, and I think the depression's going to come on quite heavy because the aftermath of the party is gonna hit me like a ton of bricks. But it was worth it. I got to see all my old friends.'
When she's not feeling under the weather, Lady Mary maintains a glamorous lifestyle, and earlier this year, she was effortlessly chic in a double denim ensemble - as she DJ'd at an exclusive foodie event.

The London socialite was the image of cool glamour in a distressed jean jacket, worn with matching trousers, as she provided musical entertainment at the A Taste Of Royal Ascot 2025 event in Mayfair.
Guests sampled dishes from the Royal Ascot Chefs in Residence, with culinary VIPs including Clodagh McKenna and Raymond Blanc invited.
Mary opted for glamorous make-up that accentuated her eyes with smokey shadow and wore her blonde tresses down in styled waves.
Chunky golden jewellery served as the perfect accessory for the grungy outfit and she looked to team with it with some metallic heels.
According to the Evening Standard, the Royal Ascot welcomed a net value of 28 Michelin stars with the flurry of chefs which cooked at the revered racing event.
The star-studded roster included Yannick Alléno and Benoit Blin.
Meanwhile, others on the roster were Simon Rogan, Tom Shepherd and Saturday Kitchen's James Tanner.
Jonathan Parker, managing director at 1711 by Ascot, told the outlet: 'Fine dining at Royal Ascot has gone from strength to strength, and each year we strive to elevate the experience.

'This year is no exception with Royal Ascot 2025 set to be the world's most Michelin-starred sporting event, boasting a collective total of 28 stars.
'We're also delighted to celebrate Raymond Blanc's tenth year as chef patron, a milestone that underscores his enduring brilliance.
'At the same time, we're thrilled to welcome superstar chef Yannick Alléno for his debut, alongside a remarkable lineup of talent that reflects the innovation and style of both the global and domestic culinary scene.'
Mary was among many of the foodies at the festivities.
Mary - who is the daughter of James Charteris, 13th Earl of Wemyss and 9th Earl of March, and the Hon. Catherine Ingrid Guinnesscan - can often be seen spinning discs at events.
The model and musician earlier in the summer provided music for an event - as revealed she has been alcohol-free for 'six years, five months and 22 days', while supporting the launch of a new alcohol-free prosecco.
In July, Mary took to Instagram to share a snap at the launch party of a non-alcoholic sparkling rose by Della Vite - the brand created by sisters Chloe, Poppy, and Cara Delevigne.
'Finally something for the non drinkers,' Mary wrote. She added: 'I haven't drunk for six years, five months and 22 days but who's counting. I'm always looking for other options when I'm out.
'Thank you Della Vite for catering to everyone. And thank you for having me to DJ the launch of your zero alcohol Prosecco.
On social media, Mary shared a snap of her DJing at the launch party - one of her many creative talents, with the 38-year-old also being a member of electronic rock band The Big Pink.
