Selena Gomez's stark warning to Taylor Swift over Blake Lively... and why bitter Justin Baldoni battle has finally granted her relief

With her highly publicized legal battle with Justin Baldoni barreling towards an explosive court climax, Blake Lively must be searching for some relief from months of emotional battering.

But for Selena Gomez, the ongoing saga has left her feeling vindicated.

Gomez, Lively's longtime frenemy, feels she has finally been proved right about the beleaguered actress after years of suspicion about her close friendship with Taylor Swift

Swift, 35, is set to be subpoenaed this week after she was pulled into the increasingly toxic scuffle between Lively and her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.

Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December, accusing him of sexual harassment and creating a 'hostile work environment on set.'

Baldoni, 41, retaliated with his own $400 million filing against the actress, along with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, 48, accusing the couple of trying to tarnish his reputation. The bitter back-and-forth is scheduled for a trial on March 29, 2026. All parties have denied the allegations.

Pop superstar Swift has struggled to exhume herself from the legal rollercoaster, with some sources previously claiming she could even be the 'smoking gun.'

Now, an insider has exclusively told the Daily Mail how Swift’s longtime best friend Gomez, 32, once issued a stark warning to the pop star about Lively.

The former Disney child star has always been wary of the Gossip Girl alum, especially because of the way she 'latched onto Taylor.'

'She warned Taylor about Blake, raising her concerns years ago,' the insider said.

'Blake called Taylor her best friend and family and then asked her to be the godmother of her children,' our source confirmed.

Swift and Lively have been friends for a decade. The Cruel Summer singer is the godmother of Lively's daughters James, 10, Inez, eight, and Betty, five, as well as her two-year-old son Olin. However, Gomez wasn't sold on the close relationship.

'Selena always found this odd, but she let it be. So everything that is happening now comes as no surprise at all to Selena,' the source revealed. Now that Lively is bringing Swift into her legal drama, Gomez feels she has been justified.

Swift was dragged into the saga when Lively referred to Swift and Reynolds as her ‘dragons.’ The nickname came to light when Baldoni shared screenshots of messages Lively sent to him as part of his countersuit which he filed in January. He accused Lively of enlisting Swift to 'pressure' him into letting her rewrite the This Ends With Us script.

One alleged message reads: 'If you ever get around to watching Game Of Thrones, you'll appreciate I'm Khaleesi, and, like her, I happen to have a few dragons. For better or worse, but usually for better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really, we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. You will too, I can promise you.'

Baldoni also claimed Lively threatened to 'change her mind' about reaching out to Swift to secure the use of her hit 2020 track My Tears Ricochet, which was eventually used in the trailer.

After the lawsuit came to light, Lively largely went into hiding and was spotted looking forlorn on a farm in New York. Swift has been equally private, keeping a low-profile as she spends time away from her infamous 'squad' of A-list besties who attend her annual July 4th parties, as well as newer friends like fellow Kansas City Chiefs WAG Brittany Mahomes. Instead, she's been cozying up to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who she's turned to in her time of need.

Conversely, Gomez has been seeking the spotlight after releasing her album I Said I Love You First.

Gomez appears to be thriving after getting engaged to producer Benny Blanco last year and has been gushing over their relationship as well as the process of making the album together.

It helps that she's relieved that people are finally seeing Lively through her eyes.

Gomez and Swift became close friends in 2008, with Lively joining Swift's squad in 2015. But, despite both Gomez and Lively being extremely close with Swift, Gomez and Lively don't appear to have ever been photographed together.

Suspicions were raised when Gomez, who is a noted sports fan, skipped the luxe suite where Swift watched her boyfriend's team the Chiefs win the Super Bowl last year. She was absent again in February when they lost to the Eagles. Lively was sitting pretty on both occasions.

Lively, Swift and Gomez don't hit up New York City hot spots like Emilio's Ballato or The Corner Store as a crew, but instead spend time with their girl groups separately. In fact, there are absolutely no photographs of the trio together.

There were dozens of occasions, including all of Swift's epic birthday bashes, her iconic Fourth of July parties and her New Years Eve celebrations, that Gomez and Lively notably never attended together and Swifties have tried desperately to figure out why they aren't all gal pals.

Gomez has seemingly only ever made one reference to the Gossip Girl alum.

In a 2016 interview with Elle magazine, she was asked about the actress for a beauty piece and said: 'I wish she was my friend, but she's not my friend. Blake Lively. I've never met her, but I just love her hair.'

Now, even Swift seems to be distancing herself from Lively. At the Super Bowl, the decade-long, self-proclaimed 'besties' hugged and downed plastic cups of wine while living it up, but they haven't been snapped together since.

Gomez and Swift were last photographed together at the Golden Globe Awards in January 2024, but after years of friendship, their bond remains strong.

The insider claimed that Gomez 'wishes no one harm or ill will' and that 'she is glad that Taylor is getting to see what she has felt for years.'

'Selena wishes Taylor was not involved in this and will be there for her however she can.'
