Toblerone fans left devastated as chocolate bar is axed

Toblerone fans have been left devastated as the 'best' chocolate bar has been officially axed.

American sweet giant Mondelez revealed that the dark chocolate version of the bar is being discontinued .

However fans of the Swiss treat can still buy the milk chocolate, white chocolate, fruit and nut, crispy, orange twist and all other versions of the bar.

The brand didn’t explain why they were axing the dark chocolate but they confirmed the bar would no longer be on sale in the UK.

A spokesperson for Mondelez said it was a 'difficult decision'.

'While we understand that this may be disappointing for some consumers, we continue to invest in Toblerone.'

The Toblerone bar is known for its unique triangle shape and almond nougat pieces inside, many flavours have been made available over the years.

Recently, someone asked on the social media platform whether the chocolate bar had been discontinued.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: 'Hi has dark chocolate Toblerone been discontinued in the UK as unable to find in shops or online? Thanks'

Another added: 'Oh mate it has to be the best dark chocolate I've had. And with Toblerone you only need one or two pieces and you're satisfied.'

Someone else added: 'Can we all agree that Toblerone dark chocolate with honey nougat is the best out of all the other Toblerones.'

Meanwhile on Reddit last Christmas, someone asked: 'Ok people. There's a week till Christmas and there's not a Dark Toblerone in sight anywhere.

'Does anyone know where all the dark Toblerones are? I'm going to have literally nothing to give my dad for Christmas if I can't track down at least one Dark Toblerone.'

Many suggested they could still be bought online or at airport duty free shops.

One person said: 'Order them online. Waitrose.com has them in stock.'

Another added: 'Airports have mounds of all types. Just got a ton of white and a few dark.'

Someone else added: 'Haven’t seen it this year. They seem to have replaced it with the orange one. I think they still have the mini dark ones in the boxes but that’s all I’ve seen.'

A fourth added: 'Probably in the reduced section because nobody is buying them.'

Toblerone Dark was first introduced in 1969 and so has been a favourite of chocolate fans for more than 50 years.

It comes after another much-loved chocolate bar returned to a major UK supermarket after a three year hiatus.

Fans of the Crispy Rolls mourned when chocolate bosses pulled the sweet treat from shelves three years ago.

Now, chocolate lovers will be delighted to discover that the dry spell is over, with Tesco stocking three variations.

Shoppers can currently get their hands on Bounty Crispy Rolls, Twix Crispy Rolls, and Milky Way Crispy Rolls at the supermarket for 45p on Clubcard price, according to food Instagram account @newfoodsuk.

Mars discontinued the beloved Milky Way Crispy Rolls in 2022, explaining that the chocolatey treat was 'in a galaxy far, far away'.

But the Crispy Rolls are now firmly back on planet earth, causing fans to rejoice over the happy news on social media.

Three years later, nostalgic fans continued to rally for a chocolate comeback, with one Change.org petition amassing over 8,600 signatures.

Then a series of mysterious billboards appeared overnight in London showcasing a selection of passionate online pleas including a fan's humorous lament: 'When they decided to discontinue Milky Way crispy rolls, they decided to discontinue a part of me.'

The truth is now out: the billboard campaign was all part of the triumphant return of the fan-favourite Milky Way Crispy Rolls.

A spokesperson for Mars Wrigley commented: 'We don't shy away from our mistakes at Mars. We wanted to show that the people had spoken, and we had listened!

'This is a fan favourite, so we're celebrating by introducing two new flavours as well. This is all about you – our fans – eating and enjoying life's simple pleasures; Crispy Rolls!'
