A speeding Tesla driver has died after he barreled through an intersection at nearly 100 mph and crashed into two vehicles in Colorado.
The driver, an unidentified 26-year-old man from Centennial, was caught on surveillance footage running a red light at South Airport Boulevard in Aurora on Monday around 8pm.
The white electric car slammed through the intersection, striking a white SUV with six passengers inside and a police car that was stopped near the crash site.
The Tesla then spun out of control and erupted in flames. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Just moments before the horrific collision, an Aurora Police Department Traffic Officer clocked the manic driver racing down the road at 97 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The officer tried to pursue the driver to initiate a traffic stop, but the man appeared to accelerate, leading the officer to stop chasing him, authorities said.
The six occupants in the SUV, two adults and four children, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The police officer was not injured.
Dramatic images showed the Tesla fully engulfed in flames as pieces of the car and the SUV were strewn across the roadway.

The crash also caused severe damage to the road and sidewalk, as traffic lights had to be repaired before the road could reopen.
Skid marks were also left all over the sidewalk and road, and pebbles on the ground were thrown around from the crash.
Alison Milano captured video of the aftermath of the crash, and told 9News: 'Honestly it was pretty harrowing.'
'There were lots of cops, lots of fire trucks. It was just all and all very chaotic in the moment.'
Wayne Blackwell, a local resident who frequents the intersection, told KDVR he's always been extra cautious on that road.
'I don’t make that initial turn during a red light. And when it turns green, I kind of pause, because you never know who’s gonna come blowing through that light,' he said.
'So now we have this joke where we say, okay, after the light turns green, 1001, 1002, now proceed, even if somebody beeps their horn at you.'
Police officers said that speeding near the intersection is unfortunately not uncommon for that area.

'(It’s a place) where there are higher speeds, the number of crashes in this area and things like that kind of makes this a hot spot for police to focus their enforcement efforts,' Aurora Police Department agent Matthew Longshore told KDVR.
Over the past two years, 398 traffic tickets have been issued near the intersection, according to Longshore.
Another resident, Prince Johnson, attributed the speeding to angry drivers on the road.
'There’s a lot of speed going through the low rates road rage, road rage speed. So when you drive through here you just be careful,' Johnson warned.
The intersection was officially reopened Tuesday after repairs were made to the broken street lights and wreckage was picked up.
The Aurora Police Department Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation.
