Popular streaming platform introduces 'most-hated' feature following in Netflix's footsteps - as livid users rage 'time to cancel!'

A popular streaming platform has introduced a 'most-hated' feature and followed in Netflix's footsteps.

Two years ago, Netflix introduced a 'paid sharing' option for multiple users on the same account.

Max, a Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform which launched in America in 2023, has brought in similar measures.

A standard account costs $16.99 per month and now, users have the option to pay an additional $7.99 for an Extra Member Add-On.

The new feature launched on Tuesday and allows the primary owner to share their account with another.

Those with a Max Extra membership will still have their own login details away from the original, primary account.

It has the capability to transfer an adult profile to the extra member account.

However, primary accounts are restricted to just one extra member.

Warner Bros Discovery boss JB Perrette said the new features give users 'greater flexibility.

They said: 'Extra Member Add-On and Profile Transfer are two key Max advancements, designed to help viewers with a new way to enjoy our best-in-class content at an exceptional value, and offer subscribers greater flexibility in managing their accounts.'

Perrette added: 'These updates provide a simple way for subscribers to add-on a new member to their account, or for existing subscribers who have users outside of their household to smoothly, and in an uninterrupted fashion, transition their profile so that extra member can continue to access Max.'

Max subscribers have mixed views and some posted on X: 'I'm glad they're doing this because you couldn't do this with cable.

'Why would you be able to do this with streaming and I understand why they're gonna keep losing money if people keep doing this.'

'It's for the best!'

'This is the type of greed they talk about in the Bible.'

'Welp time to cancel this one too. White Lotus was neat I guess.'

'Oh God they’re making the same mistake as Netflix.'
