A $10 sell-out item from Kmart Australia has been urgently recalled due to fears of explosion and risk of serious injury.
The Anko Glass Flip Pickle Jar, which was sold at Kmart and Target between February 15, 2023 and March 3, 2025, was hugely popular among shoppers, with many reporting the item was difficult to find after selling out multiple times.
The ACCC's Product Safety Australia has now issued an urgent recall, warning customers to stop using the jar immediately.
'The affected product can break when used to store certain fruit or vegetables in liquid,' the authorities said.
'Fermented food stored in affected products can build up gas and cause the jar to explode or make the lid difficult to remove.'
The recall is due to the risk of serious injury from lacerations if the jar explodes or if the lid breaks while being removed.
'Injuries have occurred,' the authorities confirmed.
Kmart has responded to the urgent recall, saying: 'We take the quality and safety of our products very seriously, which is why we would like to advise you of a product safety recall.

'Customers should immediately sop using the product and return to the nearest Kmart store for a refund with or without a receipt.
'Please contact us if you are unable to return the product or have sold or gifted it to another person.'
The hourglass-shaped jar featured two compartments, designed to separate brine from the food when flipped.

Over the years, shoppers have been using the glass jars to not only to store pickles but also other foods typically stored in liquid, such as olives, tinned beetroots, pineapples and more.
However, an increasing number of customers started warning others about the glass jars spontaneously 'exploding' in their fridges.

'It just exploded... The lid and sealer blew off it. I had to throw out a lot of the food in the fridge, plus two hours of cleaning and finding tiny sharpies of glass.
'I think they should be recalled.'
Before the urgent recall, Kmart warned customers on its website that the pickle jars were, 'not suitable for beetroot' and advised, 'not use this jar to store fermenting food'.
