CYANN, 22

Single, no children

Dating past?

I’ve been single for three years since a relationship that lasted six months. Before that, I had what my generation call ‘situationships’ — not really boyfriend or girlfriend, just a casual thing.

Pre-Date Nerves?

I tried not to overthink it, but they still kicked in when I asked for our table.

First Impressions?

My first thought was that he’s not my normal type. I usually go for geeky-looking men — lawyer types who look well-read. But Ryan was not like that at all and, at 5ft 10in, was shorter than my usual type, too. He was very attractive, though. I did notice his piercing blue eyes.

Easy To Talk To?

I had worried I would end up dominating the conversation because I’m a chatterbox, but so is he. He didn’t go to university, whereas I studied English at Royal Holloway in Surrey, but that made our chats refreshing.

We talked about our jobs — he works in the film industry and I’m in the media — and our families, and I’ve never laughed so much in my life. We discussed past relationships and were really honest.

He’s quite a stress-free person whereas I’m the opposite, so it was nice of him to tell me that he was having a great time to put me at ease. The date was lovely.

Embarrassing Moments?

We got olives as a starter and he said he always gives away the last bit of anything he’s sharing. I’m the same, so he had to ask the waiter who we should give the last olive to. The waiter had no clue but we fell about laughing.

Did sparks fly?

I’d say so. I don’t know whether we are friends or something more, but I’d definitely like to meet up again.

See him again?

Yes, he brought out the best in me. As we walked to the train station, I said ‘Can I take your number?’ because I was worried he wasn’t going to say it. But he smiled and said that of course he was going to ask!

What do you think he thought of you?

I think he felt similarly to me.

Would your family like him?

Dad would have a lot in common with Ryan — they’re both into their food.

RYAN, 24

Pre-Date Nerves?

Not until I got to the restaurant and realised she wasn’t there yet — I began to feel a little nervous as I waited.

First Impressions?

When she walked in I thought she was a good-looking girl in a nice pink top and trousers.

She looked casual but smart and had a lovely smile. We had a bit of a hug before we sat down.

Easy To Talk To?

We started chatting and then we didn’t stop. In fact, we were so busy talking that we didn’t order food for 45 minutes.

After the meal we chatted for so long that in the end the staff kicked us out of the restaurant after about five hours because they needed to set up for the evening.

We don’t have that much in common, but it really didn’t matter. She grew up in Devon and went to university, while I was born and bred in London and went straight into work.

However, we both like being active — she’s into sports and the gym, and I like football.

We seemed to share the same sense of humour, too, and could take the mick out of each other really easily.

Embarrassing Moments?

Not really. The two of us could chat for England.

Did sparks fly?

I felt we were getting a little bit flirty towards the end, yes. We were teasing each other a bit more and I felt there was a definite spark of something.

See her again?

After eating at the restaurant, we went to sit in a park for a little bit and then walked to the train station together.

We hugged and swapped numbers before we parted. I’ve messaged her already, so we’ll see what happens.

What do you think she thought of you?

I think she liked the fact that I was talkative and the conversation never stopped.

Like me, she seemed to have a good time and laughed a lot.

Would your family like her?

Yes, definitely — she’s a nice girl and I think they’d welcome her.
