Critics Consensus

Too straight-faced to have as much fun with its juicy premise as it could, G20 is more pedestrian than presidential but does have a commanding lead in Viola Davis.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Viola Davis is the dealmaker. Sure, she brings an extra dimension of emotional truth and groundedness to the character, but it’s not just that. It’s also what Sutton symbolises. Rated: 3/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Yep, we’re deep into fantasy territory with this preposterous, dumb-as-rocks action picture. Redeeming it slightly is the consistently impressive Viola Davis, Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Ben Travis Empire Magazine Not exactly a world leader in the action movie stakes – but entertaining enough, particularly thanks to Viola Davis.  Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Cris Kennedy Inner East Review The set-ups are wooden and the action is completely expected though that is part of the fun with films like this, but the set design and staging is lush, which might be that Bezos money. Rated: 3/5 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Viola Davis always entertains but this is just too much of the same old same old. Rated: 5/20 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Korey Coleman Double Toasted G20 is enjoyable as a streaming movie. Viola Davis stands out, but nothing else is that memorable. Audience Member G20 is the latest Amazon Prime film starring Viola Davis and Anthony Starr. This film could have been so much more but right off the bat you can tell this is an action film with no thrills and cheap action. Also this film suspends belief and has a thin storyline. Viola Davis and Anthony Starr are the highlights of this film but even they cannot save it from being below average. This movie made me miss the action movies that came before it like Die Hard where they used practical action effects instead of fake looking CGI. G20 is a movie you can skip and save your time. I’m giving this film a 1 1/2 stars out of 5 review. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars04/26/25 Full Review Treasure C ONE WORD. BEAUTIFUL Watching this with family really pulled it together for me, I absolutely loved it and how the characters were developed, (I’m not the type to give fives easily). But a solid 4.5 :) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars04/26/25 Full Review Laurence C Utter garbage, so ludicrous as to be beyond parody, from an overweight woman in her fifties having no difficulty whatsoever in destroying professional mercenaries twice her body mass to her delinquent teenage daughter who can access the internet, when terrorists have blocked all WiFi to the building they have seized control of, by gerrymandering attaching her laptop to convenient antenna, with no tools in minutes! You can’t make this stuff up. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars04/26/25 Full Review Jerod S Viola commands attention - but as a ex-pat fighter, it's a little harder to believe. When terrorists take down her and other world superpowers at a summit, she's the one battling their way out. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars04/26/25 Full Review Khanyisa J BEST Movie ever...I love it!! (ENGLISH) There are movies that show their cards from the very start, and G20 is one of them. Entertaining, straight to the point, and with that 90s vibe that hits just right when all you want is to unwind and have a good time. Viola Davis owns the screen from the first scene, carrying the weight of the story with such confidence that she often makes you forget how basic the script actually is. The plot isn’t exactly groundbreaking: a surprise attack during an international summit, and a president who turns into an action hero. It sounds over the top—because it is—but it works within the tone the movie sets. If you don’t take it too seriously, it’s easy to enjoy the well-timed tension and the more explosive sequences. Anthony Starr, meanwhile, confirms that villains are his new thing. Ever since The Boys, he seems to have found his sweet spot as the deeply unsettling guy, and he doesn’t disappoint here. It’s fun watching him go all in, even if the character is painted with a broad brush. This isn’t a film that’s going to reinvent the genre—and it doesn’t try to. G20 delivers pure, straightforward entertainment, with flashy action scenes, steady pacing, and a leading lady who elevates everything she touches. Perfect for a no-pressure movie night when you’re in the mood to watch Davis kick some serious ass. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars04/25/25 Full Review Read all reviews
