Who We Are

NBC Select (formerly Select) was born from NBC News and NBC News Shopping. We are the product review and commerce news extension of NBC News digital.

Our mission is to provide our readers with high-quality service journalism and comprehensive consumer advice so they can make informed decisions and choose the right products for their lives.

Editorial Guidelines

We create all our content without input from our commercial team or any outside third parties, and we pride ourselves on our journalistic standards and ethics.

Our shopping guides and recommendations are based on in-depth reporting and research, which includes interviewing experts in the field, tracking shopping trends and demystifying jargon and marketing language.

We also extensively cover shopping event days, such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Amazon Prime Day. Our reporters and staffers personally comb through deals and find the best ones.

How We Make Money

We have affiliate relationships with retailers, directly correlating our interests with reader interests: When you click a link to shop in an NBC Select article, we may receive a commission if you purchase anything through that link. If you return the items, we don’t receive a commission. However, brands do not pay us for coverage or placement. Our reporters and editors independently select the best products based on intensive reporting and guidance from experts.

Items are sold by retailers, not NBC Select. Pricing and availability are accurate as of publish time.

Methodology

As an editorial team, we independently create content and determine coverage based on research, reporting and what we think NBC Select readers would like to read about.

When covering sales and deals (including, but not limited to, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Amazon Prime Day), we have an extensive vetting process for which deals we feature. We look for deals at least 20% off, the lowest price it's been in three months or the lowest price ever. We do the research via price monitoring systems to determine the accurate tracking. Our editors and reporters also choose products and brands that have been featured previously in our content or ones that they have tested and used themselves. We do not include products that fall outside those parameters.

Editorial Direction

All articles on NBC Select are editorially independent. Our affiliate relationships do not impact editorial direction or decisions to feature certain products. Instead, we determine coverage and which products to feature based only on what we believe readers are interested in or what our research and reporting bears out. We also make decisions based on extensive research from our dedicated team of reporters and editors.

Furthermore, we will always let you know why we are featuring a product – whether an expert specifically recommended it, it’s approved or recommended by a trusted body like the FDA or CDC, it meets more broad expert guidelines regarding shopping for that type of product, it’s on sale or at a reduced price and meets the above or is otherwise new or novel and therefore newsworthy.

Lauren Swanson, Editorial Director

  • Swanson joined the team in 2022 as editorial director of NBC Select and has over 12 years of experience in print, digital and social media. She was previously in editorial leadership positions at Condé Nast (including Glamour, Allure, Teen Vogue and more), Merriam-Webster and Encyclopedia Britannica.

Nikki Brown, SEO Editor

  • Prior to joining the NBC Select team in 2023, Brown oversaw editorial content for BlogHer. She also was a beauty editor at ESSENCE and StyleCaster.

Lindsay Schneider, Commerce Editor

  • Schneider joined the team in 2023. Prior to NBC Select, she was the senior commerce editor for theSkimm where she edited commerce content and book coverage.

Jordan Bowman, Commerce Editor

  • Bowman previously covered tech, style and home products at The Strategist and Wirecutter before joining the NBC Select team in 2023.

Cory Fernandez, Commerce Editor

  • Fernandez joined the NBC Select team in 2024 and covers food, cooking, kitchen, cleaning and home. Prior to joining the team, he was an editor at The Kitchn at Apartment Therapy Media and Food Network Magazine. He also has experience from The Pioneer Woman Magazine, Men's Health and Out Magazine.

Mili Godio, Updates Editor

  • Godio joined the team in 2021 and covers skin care and wellness. Prior to NBC Select, Godio wrote for Cosmopolitan and was a Fellow for Newsweek's breaking news team.

Harry Rabinowitz, Reporter

  • Rabinowitz joined the NBC Select team in 2022 and covers technology launches, deals and more. He reviews the latest and greatest tech and has written for Popular Science, Popular Mechanics and Lifewire.

Zoe Malin, Reporter

  • Malin joined the NBC Select team in 2021 and was previously at CNN during the 2020 presidential election. She leads editorial coverage for tentpole events including Amazon Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is a correspondent on NBC News Now.

Bianca Alvarez, Associate Reporter

  • Alvarez joined the NBC Select team in 2023. She covers beauty, wellness, skin care and hair care. Prior to joining the team, Alvarez worked for Reader's Digest, Allure and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
