Meet the Press

John F. Kennedy: Focusing on religion is ‘a disastrous way of picking a ticket’

03:23

John F. Kennedy joined “Meet the Press” on January 3, 1960 during his presidential campaign. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960 and served until his assassination in 1963, was the first Catholic president. He talked about the role his religion plays on the campaign trail. Kennedy said he would not consider a run for vice president if the Democratic Party did not nominate him at the top of the ticket because of his religion.
