Job applications surge among DOGE targets in federal government

Amid stagnating white-collar hiring, job applications have nearly doubled in DOGE-targeted federal agencies.
This line chart compares job applications started by federal workers against those started by federal workers at DOGE-targeted agencies. Figures are in percentages on a monthly basis and compared against January 2022 job applications. While DOGE-targeted agencies see more job application activity than federal workers in general, the amount of job application activity in February is striking. DOGE-targeted agencies increased 60 percentage points, much more than job applications among all federal workers, which increased less than 8 percentage points.
