CommentRe:Unions in the UK (Score 1)18

In general, people are too worried about what SOMEONE ELSE is getting, and not focused enough on minding their own business.

I couldn't care less how much our CEO makes. It is irrelevant to me. If I could get someone to pay me what she makes, I'd be doing the same fucking thing. She made about $12M last year. That's about 92x what I made. Good for her.

What I care about is what I make. I make plenty. I'm overpaid as far as I am concerned, but I'm hardly going to offer my employer some of its money back.

I'm not in a union. I do have a pension though. It's a lame one, but it is still there.

I agree and that wasn't the comment I was responding to. I was responding to an argument that one is entitled to repay less than what one borrowed.

It's perfectly fine to educate people. The education has a cost. Why shouldn't the one being educated have primary responsibility for paying that cost?

If one is able to repay the cost, then one should do so.

If one engages in study that isn't sufficient to repay that cost, then that's a study that should not be at public expense. Such a person should study something that DOES provide the ability to pay that cost.

This is exactly right.

Together, my wife and I make just barely under $300K/year.

Our mortgage payment (with no money down): $1100/month.

Our car payment: $523/month (and there is only one such car).

Number of children: 1 (since we decided that's what we can afford).

Number of boats, planes, ATVs, quads, travel trailers and other toys: 0

Amount in child's 529 plan: about $85K (at 9 years old).

We also spend just under $20k/year on private school for our child.

You can afford college for your child, if you make it a priority.
