We had a good run. But we got too big, let too many consultants thrust the industry into eventual ruin, and now are left with the pieces.

I live in an area where Comcast, a fiber provider, and the major wireless companies all compete. Reliability is pretty much the same across the board, and I have had them all over periods of time in the past 5 years.
While Comcast does offer the cheapest option (the all but hidden NOW $30 plan), it is also the slowest. To get to a competitive speed with the other providers, the price point is⦠shockingly the same, give or take 5 dollars (not counting multi-line discounts).
I had them when the promo pricing with TV made sense (no longer competitive there, either), and again when they had a 400M symmetrical plan with unmetered bandwidth for $25 a month. But without a compelling reason, I do not foresee going back to them anytime soon - when others provide the same or better, what is the point?
Tuition price skyrocketing, predatory loan rates and terms, endless supply of work visas lowering salaries for graduates, all while endowments run into the billions. All of it, broken.
Most COBOL developers are older and know what they are worth to the market. They are also more likely to not be able to be replaced with a H1B or offshore company, as COBOL predates most of that workforce.
This is just trying to save a buck. And it will probably mess up a lot of stuff in the process.
If I Google something, Gemini will sometimes appear. Are these being counted in the total? If so, seems like shady math to me.
Still not coming back
You will be amazed at just how many projects - many of which dubious at best - are funded.
I completely agree that we need to retain at least some of these individuals, even if just to keep them occupied and unavailable to our rivals and adversaries.
But from a purely pragmatic perspective - we really do fund a lot of useless work, and current spending is unsustainable.
I argued against NEVI funds. Those measly chargers would have been outdated by the time they were installed, and we would have foolishly wasted taxpayer money on them.
Just look at where the tech has already come in such a short amount of time.
do these executives give up on the excuses and just admit they are doing RTO just so they can have an affair with the interns?
These companies routinely abuse the H-1B and B1 visa system. I will shed no tears.
Not a supporter, but in the spirit of fairness, this was kind of a half-assed effort to begin with. For instance, I happen to live in a state that was not on the eligible list to use this tool.
The argument could be made that with time it would have been better might be true. But to have something that only half the states could use is really unfair to the rest, and just weird.
Headline says AI firm. Article says AI related firm. Some crafty wording going on here.
Since most Android devices rarely receive updates for long, this will not affect most users until they change phones.
Just as long as the C-suite is still protected. Put it anywhere but there!
How effective was this unit to begin with?
