You can move there but GDP is a poor measure of how good your life would be. If GDP was a metric of quality life then you should move to China. Their official GDP has been going nuts for 20+ years.

The reality of California for the people who live there is very high taxes on everything, very high prices on everything, piss poor services including really shitty roads, horrible traffic, crowded filthy cities, and nasty unpleasant citizens everywhere. And yes you get nice weather most of the year.

I spent most of my life there until a few years ago but I still go back for $reasons for about 2 weeks a year. Was there last week, in fact. Every year the food prices are shockingly higher than the year before, the roads are shittier, the people meaner and the restaurants emptier (the only good thing as one of my favorite restaurants used to require reservations well in advance but we made reservations that morning and could've just walked in).

So, sure, GDP is doing great, move there, report back in a year when you leave because daily life is shit for most people.

And yet, no, at last check California is still one of the 50 States so you can't avoid "King Trump" any more than I could avoid Biden's inflation there.

I've managed any number of people I knew were alcoholics and/or drug users. As long they were dry and sober when at the keyboard or on-call I didn't give a damn what they did on their time. But not in environments where people could die or lose billions of dollars.
