CommentClarifying on Remote Streaming (Score 4, Informative)69

Per TFA:

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CURRENT PLEX PASS HOLDERS:
For users who have an active Plex Pass subscription, remote playback will continue to be available to you without interruption from any Plex Media Server, after these changes go into effect. When running your own Plex Media Server as a subscriber, other users to whom you have granted access can also stream from the server (whether local or remote), without ANY additional charge—not even a mobile activation fee.

so if you have a Plex Pass that remains active (including lifetime) any subscribers you have can still stream from your server without having to purchase a Plex Pass.

Good for running, but that's about it.

I appreciate mine for cycling and strength training tracking as well (yeah, sometimes I lose count of my reps, so sue me). Better accuracy than my cell phone just tracking through the woods when I'm on a ride and does a damned good job of tracking my heart rate (I've compared it to the old school chest band monitor and it's as accurate in my experience).

Title: "FTC Bans Location Data Company That Powers the Surveillance Ecosystem"

Summary:

The FTC says in a proposed order that Gravy and Venntel will be banned from selling, disclosing, or using sensitive location data, except in "limited circumstances" involving national security or law enforcement.

So basically, no changes. This is a non-story.

Not exactly. Their proposal would make it so you or I would be unable to purchase that information (unless you are law enforcement, I'm guessing not but it's not safe for me to make that assumption). As it stands prior to this proposed order taking effect, we could theoretically purchase that info ourselves.

As for the main filesystem, ZFS should be a core option, with btrfs and ext4 as options. XFS is okay for data, but definitely not great for a root filesystem, as it can't be shrunk, and has no checksumming capability for data.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that ZFS wouldn't be considered a core option as its licensing prohibits its adoption as part of the kernel?
