This fits right in with the idiocy of hiding file extensions. Don't stress the user over whether it's a JPEG or a PNG, you can just show some completely random indication that it's a pic.

I can understand their logic: in theory the type of image is mostly a technical detail. But thanks to screwball tools, one has to know more often than the should. Fortunately MS gives one the choice of switching extensions back on. And if a mouse hover-tip over the type icon gives the extension, that's usually good enough for most users. (I haven't checked if hover-tips work.)

It's not about rational solutions to better moderation, but intimidation to encourage Wikipedia staff to promote MAGA perspectives.

Ironically Don's staff closed many foreign investigation offices. So on one had they say keeping foreign influence out is important, on the other they cancel Federal offices that investigate foreign influence, especially of Russia.

Early military jets were similar: they mostly just slapped a jet engine on a propeller-based design, and often got lack-luster improvements and/or stability problems at higher speeds. Part of the problem is that they first needed stronger wind-tunnels and skilled test pilots to test designs, but such experts were tied up in here-and-now war issues.

Even the Me-262 had a stack of issues that were only slowly being resolved via trial and error. Jets required a different mentality than propeller planes.
