However as soon as a few people fail to sign up due to NOT having 1000k for the deposit or figure out the 1000k is locked up it will probably not be attractive to that group anymore.

NEO already does pack swaps and as The Limiting factor breaks down ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?... ) some challenges with scaling a swap station.

1. The station STILL needs about the same power requirements as it needs to recharge the swapped packs.
2. The stations throughput is limited by both charging time and the number of packs that can be stored on site (they are huge) it gets even less space efficient if you have DIFFERENT packs.
3. If it gets busy, those at the back of the line would have just been better off if there where 4-6 more rapid charging stations in the same location vs the large swap station.
4. A swappable battery in some way or form impacts future car design and since NEW battery tech might be better you might get held back to be compatible with the old swap packs.

It died when you need to comply with security requirements through the entire stack and keep them compatible and didn't have to worry about constant live cyber attack.

IT standard for on prem what don't change anything let it rot for a few decades, everything worked over plain text local and didn't change.

Say on the same OS..... Till it didn't work with old hardware any more.

Stay on the current app, Holding BACK the OS and library's to keep it compatible.

Don't update change the app, even if it is full of vulnerabilities.

You can still own software, there are still apps like that but people don't pick them due to slow upgrade cycles etc.

Don't forget that remote formal communication is Mail.. Like postage and stamp mail to many government and corporate entities. Unless fax is a thing still in which case fax at its worst is really bad, anyone remember SPAM faxes?

Leading to all sorts of Access and Excel "APPS" in the business with conflicting formulas and versions and completely different platforms in every department

Really there is a spectrum of benefit from central to thick client to local apps.. There are benefits and flaws to all and sometimes a system works better in one or the other.

What I can tell you is I would rather have "APP" level SaaS failures than Mainframe business level slow progress or outages (most mainframes where very reliable if well managed).

These days if it is on prem apps or in the cloud a lot of companies stop functions ether way if their internet line goes down at the office.

- Looking stuff up in outdated books at the library instead of instantly in my phone
- Depending 100% on vendors (calling support numbers) or vendor documentation to solve problems vs online communities.
- Watching TV shows with commercials or recording TV edited TV content
- Spending hours in meeting rooms and in an office forced to a specific dress code "because a client might walk through"
- Anything to do with long distance calling pre internet.
- All of the physical printed documents, software media (disks) etc that need to exist when you are fully offline.

The real difference here is that you get caught up in a general attack on the SaaS provider vs you getting targeted directly or your ISP.

LinkedIn is nothing more than an resume to me. I maintain my network so I continue to get leads on jobs but not much else.

There is to much risk from an HR point of view to be publicly socializing on LinkedIn in a professional sense.

I cringe everytime someone posts something political or personal there.

I migrated to it as it came out of beta around march 2022 for my personal domain, since it was cheap, had a simple non broken UI etc.

I switched to reddit for like the past 10 years, only hear to follow reddit news without using reddit.

This site is very news focused, there is more Q &A type discussions in reddit, ability to edit responses, more variety of topics etc.

This site is still a good news for nerds site but reddit did that AND MORE.

I installed a browser plugin.. Too many google search results send you to reddit.

There are A LOT of subs on reddit, some of them are VERY good for technical Q&A..

Same, the Firehose however is more like a garden hose these days..

Also as part of the issue is the time period to implement change and the CEO trying to throw the dev under the bus in other discussions and during the AMA he did.

As noted Imgr grandfathered the change and other companies have given reasonable transition times of months or years not 30days to go for zero to very expensive.
