Three men arraigned in Floyd County woman’s murder

Three men were arraigned Wednesday in the murder case involving Amber Spradlin in Floyd County, Kentucky.

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) - Three men arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Floyd County were arraigned Wednesday.

3 arrested in connection with Floyd County murder case

Amber Spradlin was found dead at a home along Arkansas Creek Road in the Martin community in June 2023, according to Kentucky State Police.

Spradlin was 39 years old.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office determined Spradlin suffered multiple stab wounds to the head, neck, and torso.

Dr. Michael McKinney II, 56, Michael McKinney III, 24, and Josh Mullins, 23, have been arrested in the Spradlin murder case, according to the Kentucky State Police.

According to the indictment, Michael McKinney III is facing one count of murder and seven counts of complicity to tampering with physical evidence. McKinney III’s bond was set for $5 million.

The indictment states the following seven complicity charges for all three suspects:

  • Removed, concealed, or destroyed the handle from the broken knife used to murder Spradlin
  • Removed, concealed, or destroyed the clothing Michael McKinney III was wearing when he murdered Spradlin
  • Cleaned or removed Spradlin’s blood from the kitchen sink in the home in which she was murdered
  • Cleaned or removed Spradlin’s blood from the laundry/utility room sink in the home where she was murdered
  • Removed, concealed, or destroyed a surveillance camera that would have captured the murder of Spradlin from the room where she was killed
  • Removed, concealed, or destroyed a digital video recorder that contained footage from surveillance video cameras in the home where the murder occurred
  • Removed, concealed, or destroyed the hard drive from the only desktop PC in the home which contained information about surveillance cameras that were on the wireless network in the home where the murder occurred

Dr. Michael McKinney II, who was charged with seven counts of complicity to tampering with physical evidence, has a $250,000 bond.

Josh Mullins, who was also charged with seven counts of complicity to tampering with physical evidence, has a $100,000 bond.

If any of the suspects post bond, they will be enrolled in home confinement and hand over their passports to make sure they don’t leave the area before their next court appearance.

All three men will appear in court in late October.
