Remains found by hunter in Carroll County confirmed to be Jimmie ‘Jay’ Lee
OXFORD, Miss. (WLBT) - Human remains that were found by a deer hunter in Carroll County have been confirmed to be those of murdered Ole Miss student Jimmie ‘Jay’ Lee.
On Saturday, Carroll County deputies were dispatched to a rural part of the county in response to a call from the hunters who had stumbled on what appeared to be human remains.

On Wednesday, the Oxford Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Mississippi State Crime Lab, confirmed through DNA analysis that the remains belong to Jimmie “Jay” Lee.
“The Oxford Police Department made a commitment to finding Jay, no matter how long it took. This case has remained an active investigation since July 8, 2022. We are grateful to the Lee family and Jay’s friends for their help and support throughout this process. We hope this confirmation brings them even a small measure of comfort,” said Chief Jeff McCutchen.
When asked by WLBT, an Ole Miss representative stated, “The discovery of Jimmie ‘Jay’ Lee’s body is a solemn moment, and our thoughts are with Jay’s family and loved ones. University officials have been in contact with his parents to extend condolences. We are grateful to the individuals and agencies for their efforts in this case.”
