Like a kid returning home after graduating college, Haim is back for the summer after a five-year break from their last album— they must’ve taken a gap year, probably when they were on the Eras Tour. Once Charli XCX declared it was a HAIM summer at Coachella, the three sisters, Danielle, Este, and Alana, said, “Beat!” and announced their new album, I Quit, at a surprise concert in LA. It’s coming out on the first day of summer— they ARE summer girls after all. It’s a 15-song album produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. I Quit’s album cover is taken by their no. 1 fan and Valley advocate, director Paul Thomas Anderson.
What does quitting sound like?
It’s like HAIM never left. Their first single, “Relationships” was seven years in the works and like Saturn, it has returned for the next era of the band. An era that includes the sisters rolling their eyes at Drew Starkey. Their next two singles, “Down to be wrong” and “Everybody’s trying to figure me out,” and each singles cover art mark an iconic paparazzi moment (Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, Scarlett Johanssen, Jared Leto). When will things get meta enough where they recreate Taylor Swift’s blue dress on a boat pic?
When does I Quit come out?
Haim’s new album comes out on June 20, right before the beginning of summer. It’s also on National Ice Cream Soda Day, so there’s at least a little treat to be had with I Quit.
