Meet our brand-new Destination Healthy Skin RV.
In 2024, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s top priority was keeping our mobile skin cancer screening and education program, Destination Healthy Skin (DHS), on the road for years to come. This meant replacing our 14-year-old RV, which had reached the end of its life, with a new, fully customized model that could serve the public for a decade or more.
Here’s how the Foundation (and our wonderful supporters) made it happen.
The Save Destination Healthy Skin Campaign
The Save Destination Healthy Skin (Save DHS) campaign and its $500,000 fundraising goal were introduced at the Foundation’s Champions for Change Gala on May 15, 2024 in New York City. Following a brief video about the program and the need for a new RV, an in-room pledge drive raised nearly $100,000 to support the campaign.
In June 2024, nationwide wellness franchise Massage Envy became the lead sponsor of the campaign, with a $25,000 donation match challenge gift that drove public fundraising efforts. The company followed up with an additional $25,000 contribution in March 2025.
With our small but mighty development team leading the charge, our entire community of physicians, donors, partners and advocates rallied around Save DHS, with donor appeals featuring a melanoma survivor and DHS advocate, individual fundraising campaigns, corporate donations and social media videos and challenges.
The Natural SKN Company made a significant contribution. Elizabeth K. Hale, MD, and Julie K. Karen, MD, made a meaningful pledge in honor of Skin Cancer Foundation Founder Perry Robins, MD.
The Save Destination Healthy Skin $500,000 fundraising goal was met, and the RV was purchased and customized in time for the 2025 season kickoff. It was a tremendous journey with a truly inspiring end result — saving a program that saves lives.
About Destination Healthy Skin
Each year, the Destination Healthy Skin RV embarks on a journey to communities around the country, working with local dermatologists to provide thousands of people with free, full-body skin cancer screenings.
Participants receive information about skin cancer warning signs and proper sun protection as well as product samples. The Destination Healthy Skin RV travels approximately 10,000 miles around the country each year, holding events in dozens of communities. About 2,000 people get free skin cancer screenings each year, and thousands more receive educational information and sun protection products.
What’s That? It’s Our New RV!

The Destination Healthy Skin RV is ready to hit the road.
Our brand-new, fully customized Destination Healthy Skin RV hit the road in April 2025, traveling to Illinois and Ohio, before heading to New York City for screening events during Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May. View a list of 2025 dates and places on our schedule page, which we update regularly.
While the RV’s exterior looks similar, the entire DHS experience is significantly enhanced and thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of the people who step inside. “There’s something to be said for customizing an RV from scratch, taking into account how participants, volunteer dermatologists and our event team use the space,” explains Becky Kamowitz, executive director of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “For example, we’ve added a wheelchair lift for greater accessibility, bigger shade structures to protect people in line, touch-free trash cans for the health and safety of all, better lighting throughout the vehicle, built-in speakers — and even more space for storing our educational materials.”
The RV is not just new. It’s roomier, more comfortable and well lit. It’s reliable. It’s sustainable. It’s fuel efficient. Best of all, it will serve the public for more than a decade and help the program reach countless more people across the country with free screenings, education and peace of mind.
A Plan for Lasting Impact
About 60 physicians donate their time to DHS each year, and their generosity is vital to its success. With a new, more durable RV on the road in 2025, the Foundation has laid out a strategic plan to accomplish more than ever before. This involves strengthening partnerships with dermatologists, connecting with large group practices and planning more events, with a special focus on underserved areas.
“We’re working to build relationships with dermatologists who are willing to collaborate more deeply to reach more people who need screenings,” Kamowitz says. “This will be a game-changer.”
