Engaging Students, Parents, and Educators

All children deserve a safe and inclusive learning environment. The Sikh Coalition is leading efforts to promote Sikh awareness and prevent bullying in our nation’s public schools. Our goal is to build resilience and pride among Sikh American youth.

Sikh students experience high rates of bullying. Moreover, despite being the world's fifth-largest religion, Sikhism is also often left out of school curricula--and a dearth of resources and inaccurate textbooks can lead to its misrepresentation in the classroom. The Sikh Coalition is partnering with state and local policymakers, school officials, textbook companies, and educators to systematically address these interlocking issues.

"Helping others to learn about Sikhi is the best way to keep our children safe in schools, and the resources that the Sikh Coalition creates and shares make it easy. Thanks to the Sikh awareness presentation they provided me and their continued support, my child's school district has now hosted Sikh presenters for three years in a row--reaching thousands of social studies students with essential and appropriate information about our community, faith, and culture."

"I went from being bullied to leading the charge for better policies and real accountability in my school district. Through an inquiry with the Department of Justice and two legal settlements, the Sikh Coalition was with me every step of the way. Together, we made school safer for tens of thousands of my fellow students."
