'Star Wars: The Old Republic' launches Dec. 20

"Star Wars: The Old Republic," the highly anticipated massively multiplayer game, will be released Dec. 20 in North America, and Dec. 22 in Europe.

The announcement was made at the Eurogamer Expo in London by BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk.

This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at LucasArts who have dedicated their lives to build this extraordinary game," Muzyka said before a room full of fans and press. "We appreciate the patience from the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release.

Those they have pre-ordered the game will have early access to the game, but no word yet on how early. The MMO is set 3,600 years before the rise of Darth Vader.
