Our pre-caffeine roundup is a collection of the hottest, strangest, and most amusing stories of the morning. Here's everything that you need to know before taking that first sip of coffee. 

On Thursday, we found ourselves in sunny Santa Monica, Calif., where Amazon revealed its latest devices.

These included the Amazon's new "Paperwhite" Kindle will be easier to read, using a display that offers a clearer screen and higher resolution. 

We also met the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD plus $159 Kindle Fire.

Amazon also gave game enthusiasts some new options and features to enhance their playing experiences.

Speaking of gamers, a report claims that the gamer population in the U.S. is shrinking. But is that really the case? 

Oh! And two new reports issued this week by America's top computer-security firms address the current state of cybercrime. If the reports are to be believed, the virtual world is a pretty scary place.

But hey!  A New York judge just sentenced an eyewear website operator to four years in prison, saying his threats to murder or rape customers who complained about their orders required a serious sentence

Speaking of law and order, get ready for the big legal battle over whether U.S. government can unlock smartphones. You know, for evidence?

Speaking of music, Apple is building a "Pandora Killer." 

In closing: "The International Pug Meeting was held in Berlin, Germany this summer," reports BuzzFeed, where  over 50 pugs ran around “racing” and being their stupidly cute pug selves." Pug race!!!!
