Pebble, a snazzy-looking e-paper smartwatch, isn't available in stores right now. It's simply an insanely popular product design which has collected over $8.2 million so far on the fundraising site Kickstarter.
But it already has its first app in the bag.
In case you somehow managed to miss — or ignore — any news about Pebble, it's basically a companion device. The Pebble connects to your iPhone or Android smartphone using Bluetooth and alerts you of incoming calls, emails, messages and so on.
Pebble can also use third-party apps in order to serve as a bike computer, golf rangefinder and more. A blog post by the folks behind RunKeeper, a company which makes fitness tracking apps, reveals that they will be making the first such third-party Pebble app.
RunKeeper's Jason Jacobs explains that the Pebble project caught his team's attention because it means that RunKeeper users could go about their workouts without ever taking their phones out of their pockets. "Not to mention that quite a few of you have been requesting it in our support forum as well," he adds, addressing RunKeeper users.
Jacobs explains that a RunKeeper app will be integrated into the Pebble smartwatch once it launches, which will "likely be a few months" from now.
