The famed pocket monsters — better known as Pokemon — are getting a major 3-D upgrade for two new games set to arrive later this year.

Developer GameFreak has announced that "Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y" will launch on the Nintendo 3DS game machine worldwide this October. And as you can see from the brand new trailer below, they spring to life in a 3-D world.

This the first time that entries in the long-running main series of Pokemon games stray away from their usual top-down perspective and take place in a fully 3-D environment.

“We brought Pokemon into an entirely new dimension and we’re incredibly excited to bring 'Pokemon X'and 'Pokemon Y' to fans,” said Junichi Masuda, video game director at GameFreak, in the annoucement. “The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world.”

But that's not all that's new in this world of monster fighting. The games will introduce new species of Pokemon as well, including Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie as well as two new Legendary Pokemon: Xerneas and Yveltal. Check them out below.
