The indie sandbox sensation "Minecraft" has often been described as the video game equivalent of playing with Legos, and visually speaking, the comparison is especially apt. Many have assumed that officially "Minecraft" branded Legos was a given.

And now it's finally happening. Last month, makers of the game reached out to the makers of the blocks, via Lego Cuusoo. The officially sanctioned fan outreach initiative accepts user submitted suggestions, and if there's enough interest, a real set is created. 10,000 people needed to sign the online petition, and that goal was met.

Via the Lego Cuusoo blog:

"We're happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft. We can't wait to show it to you—but it isn't ready just yet. These things take time, so we appreciate your patience. More details are to come."

It had been previously reported the 1 percent royalty that Mojang, the developers of "Minecraft," collects will be donated to charity, and that still appears to be the case.
