'Fountain Lady' remix thankfully not Auto-Tuned

Jessica Freche's catchy newscast remix will infect your brain and hopefully make you remember to be careful where and when you text. Seriously.

"If anything good could possibly come out of 'Fountain Lady' Cathy Cruz Marrero taking a spill in the mall and then inexplicably appearing on national TV, it's a lesson about the dangers of texting and walking," Urlesque's Jay Hathaway points out.

Indeed. More than 1,000 pedestrians visited emergency rooms in 2008 because of texting-and-walking accidents, nearly double the number than in 2006, according to a study by Ohio State University. Texting while driving — or any distracted driving — is markedly worse.

For that reason, Belmont University songwriting major Jessica Freche borrows the Gregory Brothers' fun faux newscast style (thankfully sans getting' old Auto-Tune) to remix a television interview of the infamous texting-while-walking incident to get the word out about distracted driving. The song is available on iTunes and proceeds benefit the non-profit FocusDriven, an advocacy group for for victims of motor vehicle crashes involving drivers using cell phones.

While the Gregory Brothers' "Bed Intruder" remix doesn't seem to have done much to capture the eponymous assailant (not that it was supposed to), here's hoping "Fountain Lady Song" stops some texting drivers.

Goodness knows my endless carping hasn't helped.
