EA shuts down some Facebook games including 'SimCity Social'

Electronic Arts is shuttering some of its Facebook games — including "The Sims Social" and "SimCity Social" — because not enough people are playing them.

The video game company said Monday that it will continue to run its more popular titles. These include "Bejeweled Blitz" and "Plants vs. Zombies Adventures" from PopCap.

Zynga, an EA rival for social games, has also had trouble attracting enough paying players to many of its games. It's shut down games and jobs. At the same time, Facebook said late last month that more than 250 million people, or about a quarter of its users, are playing games on its website each month.

The EA games, along with "Pet Society," will go offline on June 14, EA said.
