Cars driven by humans could be outlawed once it's proven that self-driving autos are safer, Elon Musk says. The founder of electric-car company Tesla told an audience at NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California, on Tuesday that as autonomous cars become commonplace and establish a superior safety record, people won't be trusted behind the wheel anymore. "In the distant future, (legislators) may outlaw driven cars because they're too dangerous," Musk said.

Musk later followed up that thought in a couple of tweets:

Though Tesla today is primarily seen as an electric-car manufacturer, Musk says the company is striving to be a leader in autonomous vehicles.
