Thumbnail incorporates a “do” button to allow consumers to take related action, such as donating to a cause they are reading about.

In addition to Thumbnail, other standouts included: Trend TV, which analyzes a user's hashtags and delivers tailor-made video content; Heart Throb, which shows users the entertainment highlights that make their hearts race — literally — by connecting a wearable heart monitor to the Xfinity platform; and Scenes, which allows media companies to release select scenes from movies and TV shows via written scripts that users can reenact.

"Our first Comcast NBCUniversal Hackathon was a huge success and enthusiastically received by the tech community,”said Sanjay Macwan, senior vice president & CTO of Media Labs, a new organization within NBCUniversal. “This hackathon was a terrific way to exercise our new Media Labs’ mission to directly engage developers and startups who delivered extraordinary ideas in the TV, film, and digital content ecosystem.”
