Wove Smartwatch's Flexible Display Bends Around Your Wrist

The Wove Band is an upcoming smartwatch with a display that flexes with the band, letting it wrap itself around your wrist.

There are plenty of smartwatches out there for you to choose from these days, but they all seem to have one thing in common — flexible band, rigid display. Of course, there isn't really another way to do it — or is there? The Wove Band from San Francisco-based Polyera is an upcoming smartwatch that may buck the trend, integrating a flexible display into the band itself.

It's made possible by the fact that the display isn't an LCD but an e-paper one. These black-and-white screens are most often found on e-readers like the Kindle, but have a number of advantages that make them suitable for smartwatches: They're super low-power, durable and flexible, and easily readable in direct sunlight. In fact, the Pebble line of smartwatches uses e-paper screens, though like the others they have a hard shell.

There aren't many details on the Wove Band just yet except what you see: it'll have a long, rectangular display for showing off everything from steps taken to the latest news to, obviously, the time. More info on the device and the tech behind it will arrive next month.
