Seagate drive puts 4 TB on one disk for $250

Seagate

Need an external hard drive with a lot — and I do mean a lot — of storage? Then the new Seagate GoFlex Desk might be a good choice for you. It's a slender device with room for a whoppin' 4 terabytes of data.

Yes, you read that right — 4 TB. Seagate boasts that the GoFlex Desk marks the first time that a manufacturer has crammed so much capacity into a single external hard drive. They did it by stacking five "platters," each with 800GB of storage, into one 3.5-inch drive.

The PC version of the GoFlex Desk will ship with support for USB 2.0 as well as 3.0 while the Mac version will offer USB 2.0 and FireWire compatibility. (We've heard whispers that there will be Thunderbolt support in the future as well, mind you.)

The 4TB GoFlex Desk drive can now be ordered for $249.99 from www.seagate.com and will become available through several other online retailers within the month. (Coincidentally, that's about how long you'll need to figure out just what you should download to fill up all that storage.)
