LG steps up its 4G LTE game with its Spectrum smartphone, now available through Verizon Wireless.
We gave you a sneak peek of it at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.
The phone boasts a ginormous 4.5-inch HD screen, a Qualcomm 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and though powered by Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread now, it will be upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It will cost $200 with a new two-year customer agreement.
The Spectrum also has these features:
- 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, and 1080p video capture
- Front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat
- SmartMovie HD app — create and edit HD videos on the phone
- Mobile Hotspot capability — share 4G LTE connection with up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices
And this is probably something you won't see — or hear — every day: it can stream up to 7.1 channels of surround sound through home entertainment systems in that it supports Dolby Digital Plus.
LG's other 4G phones include the Revolution (also on Verizon), the G2x (T-Mobile) and Thrill (AT&T).
When you buy this phone, you'll also have to pay for a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan, which starts at $40 a month, and a smartphone data package starting at $30 a month for 2 GB of data.
Verizon's 4G network covers more than 200 million people in 195 markets.
