Facebook for Android users can now limit the access others have to their posts, matching the privacy controls recently imposed on the website.
The update to the free mobile app, version 1.7, is now available in Android Market. It also gives users the ability to tag friends in photos, places and posts. There is also a new design for Profiles and Groups.
Under "Fixes and tweaks" the update lists a few improvements, including:
Improved photo browsing with swipingImproved Messages and NotificationsFixed a number of crashes and performance issues
I installed the update this morning on my Samsung Droid Charge and the privacy controls appear to be there and working. No crashes so far, but Facebook in general is a glitchy thing, at least for me, and especially on the mobile app. For instance, I can't seem to tag within my photos. Others on the Facebook for Android Facebook page also have aired their problems, with the loudest voices coming from the complainers, as usual.
The app opens on a new News Feed page which now has three buttons at the top where users can add a photo or video, update their status with the new privacy controls in place and check in (listing places nearby to do so, if you choose to).
The last update, 1.6.1, came out in July and included bug fixes and Pages updates.
