Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested on a misdemeanor drunken driving charge Friday morning, according to jail records.

Peterson, who attended the Vikings’ NFL draft party Thursday night, was booked at 5:16 a.m. after a Minnesota state patrol officer arrested him. He was charged with fourth-degree driving while impaired.

Peterson was pulled over around 3:20 a.m. after he was stopped for speeding, going 83 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone, according to Minnesota State Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Lee. He then underwent a breath test that showed a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.14, Lee said.

Peterson posted a $4,000 bond and was released.

The Vikings hosted a draft party at their downtown Minneapolis stadium Thursday night, where Peterson was one of the team alumni invited. While at the event, Peterson appeared on local radio station KFAN for an interview.

Peterson was selected seventh overall by Minnesota in the 2007 NFL draft and spent 10 seasons with the team. He is one of the most decorated players in Vikings history, winning NFL MVP honors in 2012.

His time in Minnesota was also marred by off-field troubles. Peterson was arrested for three traffic violations from 2009 to 2011, twice for speeding and once for not wearing his seatbelt.

In November 2014, Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault in Texas after admitting to striking his then 4-year-old son with a switch. He played in only one game that year and was suspended for the rest of the season by the NFL.

After spending the final five years of his career with six different teams, Peterson retired after the 2021 season.

Peterson’s next scheduled court date is May 9.
