Courtney Love found herself caught up in the maelstrom of a violent anti-Uber protest in Paris on Thursday, tweeting that demonstrators had "ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage."
The 50-year-old musician and actress said she would have been "safer in Baghdad" and claimed that the protesters were "beating the cars with metal bats" while she attempted to get to the airport.
In a video posted to Instagram, the singer of punk band Hole also referred to the protesters as the "French Taliban."
Love’s apparent encounter was part of a nationwide strike by French taxi drivers against American-based app service. Photographs showed some of the protesters overturning suspected Uber cars and pelting them with rocks, while other demonstrators set fire to tires and blocked access to the city’s airports and train stations.
It was not clear if Love was traveling in an Uber vehicle, and she said she managed to escape the melee by paying "some guys on motorcycles to sneak us out."
Love also sent an expletive-laden tweet addressing to French President François Hollande, asking him "where are the f***ing police??? is it legal for your people to attack visitors? Get your ass to the airport. Wtf???"
Love is the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who killed himself in 1994. She later received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in "The People vs. Larry Flynt."
