I went looking today for the Virginia Senate committee that is set to consider changing the way the state divides up its electoral college vote. That idea looks to be more or less toast in Virginia, as in the other Republican-controlled blue states.
But check out the list of bills related to elections and voting in the committee's bin. Pop quiz: Is the bill titled -- "Elections; minimizing voting lines" -- sponsored by a Republican or a Democrat? How about "Polling place procedures; voter identification requirements"? For people who follow this stuff, the questions on this pop quiz will be rhetorical, almost without exception. It's remarkable how partisan the issue of voting itself remains, even after the experience of 2012.
