Hoda recounts residents' bravery in devastated Breezy Point

Kathie Lee and Hoda returned to TODAY's Fourth Hour on Wednesday, after spending two days away as superstorm Sandy ravaged the New York area.

Hoda spent much of that time covering the storm for "Dateline" out in Breezy Point, Queens, amid some of the worst damage caused by Sandy. In the wake of fires and flooding, she and her team waded in waist-deep water and spoke with residents whose homes had been destroyed. She spoke with admiration of their bravery and spirit in the wake of disaster, calling them "beautiful families."

"It puts everything into perspective, if you've lost all of your stuff and you still have each other," said KLG, who said she spent the storm hunkered down with spaghetti, neighbors and wine.

The ladies wished safety to everyone affected by the storm, and pledged to get back to the business of bringing some "levity" to the morning and making everybody laugh again.

"You want us to lighten your load?" Hoda said.

"We're going to try to do that today," promised KLG.

Julieanne Smolinski is a TODAY.com contributor who is very glad the ladies are back.
