A driver ran into a crowd in the center of Graz, Austria, early Saturday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more, local media reported.
The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old Austrian citizen, got out of his SUV and attacked bystanders with a knife before he could be arrested, police chiefs told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper.
Austrian public Television ORF said a man had been arrested and that police had sealed off the area.
It cited witnesses saying the man apparently plowed his vehicle into the crowd at random, sending several people crashing into the windshield.
Austria's APA news agency said two bodies were lying near the scene, covered with blankets.
No further details were immediately available.
