Deepak Chopra and family launch new YouTube channel

By Cathy Finkler

“Who are you?” “Can you be the change you want to see in the world?”

Also, are you a noun or a verb? (Think about it!)

These are some questions, Deepak Chopra asks viewers who drop by his new YouTube Channel, The Chopra Well. Chopra started the channel this month with his daughter Mallika and son Gotham to give his fans an online hub for mediation, health, wellness and spirituality. The Chopras joined Morning Joe today to discuss their latest venture.

Talking with Willie Geist and Mike Barnicle, the elder Chopra said he hopes the channel will reach the "critical masses" of the younger generations who have "the same questions" as his demographic. "But it has to be cool," he added.

So far, the Chopra Well has some pretty surprising interviews in addition to the more expected meditation and instructional content: Gossip blogger Perez Hilton and cast member of MTV reality show "Jersey Shore", Vinny Guadagnino, are some of Chopra's subjects.

During the Chopra's Morning Joe interview, Gotham said that in this generation, more people follow his father on Twitter than read his books, and this shift has allowed them to engage a community online to help those with questions explore their purpose in life and how they can “contribute to the world in a meaningful way.”

Mallika Chopra talked about the mediation portion of the channel, stressing the importance of slowing down and “being silent for five, ten minutes a day” to benefit one’s health and mental being. The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, located in California, has also launched a 21-day meditation challenge.

"Meditation can be really simple," she stated.

Willie Geist, wondered, “Even when I’m at rest I can sense by Blackberry next to my side,” and asked “in life, how do you remove yourself?” Chopra urged Geist to carve out times in his day for functions such as work, mediation and exercise.”

"I made a rule," the elder Chopra said. "I take time and I slice it up into bits every day. There’s sleep time, there’s exercise time, there’s meditation time, there’s focused work time, there’s relationship time and then there is the iPhone/Blackberry time."

The channel also consists of different segments such as meditation, spiritual solutions, a segment titled "Ask Deepak."

Gotham reiterated that each will feature a diverse amount of people to “explore what’s important to us.

So, after all that reading, do you feel like a little seaside poem with Tagore? Of course you do.
