Two people were in serious condition Sunday night after they were pulled from the rubble of a three-unit apartment building that collapsed following an explosion on Chicago's South Side, fire officials said.
The two people, one of them described as an elderly woman, were believed to be the only ones inside at the time of the explosion at the three-story building at East 58th Street and South Calumet Avenue, about a block from Washington Park, the fire department said. A dog was also rescued alive, they said.
