Two killed, five wounded in three shootings in St. Louis

Two people were killed and four others were injured Sunday afternoon in two near-simultaneous shootings within a couple a miles of each other in St. Louis, police said.

A 51-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were killed in a shooting about 2 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) at the east end of Fairground Park about a half-mile southwest of Interstate 70, police said in a statement.

Two other people were found with gunshot wounds, one of them a 23-year-old man who was in critical condition, police said. The other suffered a minor graze wound.

A few minutes later, two other people were shot less than 2 miles away just north of I-70, police said. Authorities gave no further details — including the conditions of those victims — except to say the shootings didn't appear to be related.

Sarah Kinkade, a spokeswoman for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, told NBC News that the hospital was treating three people in all — one in critical condition and two in good condition.

Christopher Essner of NBC News contributed to this report.
