As the nation prepares to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, KXAS NBC 5 and nbcdfw.com in Dallas-Fort Worth has released a smartphone app with hours of archival footage surrounding Kennedy’s trip to Texas and the aftermath of his death.
"JFK 50," available for free download from Apple’s app store, features extensive archival video of the tragic events that unfolded on Nov. 22, 1963 and the days thereafter.
The videos span President Kennedy’s trips to Fort Worth and Dallas and include video from the day Lee Harvey Oswald was fatally shot by Jack Ruby. The shooting was broadcast live from a camera operated by a KXAS station engineer.
Other features include a timeline of events in Dallas from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27 with corresponding articles and video, interactive maps retracing the route of the presidential motorcade on the day of the assassination, as well as Oswald’s escape path.
Users will also be able to live stream the ceremony marking the anniversary in Dallas on Nov. 22, 2013 and all related news coverage that airs on NBC 5 and nbcdfw.com.
