Five shot dead, including suspect, in Phoenix apartment complex

Five people were found shot to death, including the suspected gunman, at an apartment complex in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday morning police said.

Two dogs were also found dead at the scene, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department.

“The suspect is a white adult male, possibly in his 50s,” Thompson said, adding that the suspect’s body was found in a condominium next to the property where the victims were discovered.

“It appears he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Thompson said.

The victims were two men, a woman and a teenage boy.

Thompson was unable to confirm the relationship between the suspect and the victims, but said “they were certainly living close by – like neighbors.”

Residents in the area told The Arizona Republic that the suspect and victims had previously argued over barking dogs.

Police responded to a call from a nearby resident saying shots had been fired about 9 a.m. near 17th Avenue and Hazelwood Street.

Officers arrived at the scene and began making enquiries into the source of the gunshots.

After entering one property, they found the four victims – two on the patio, and two inside – and the two dogs. All were pronounced dead at the scene.

The body of the suspect was found in a second property close by.
