When I saw the video of the 16-year old black child being tossed around her classroom by a pseudo-cop like a rag doll, all I could hear was the chorus of Dionne Farris’s song Hopeless.
Watching this child and a grown man treat her like something worse than worthless broke my heart.
Schools are supposed to be a place of learning and discovery not a holding pen that pads the pockets of the schemers, who get rich off the school-to-prison pipeline, ushering more black and brown children into the prison industrial complex.
If it weren’t for kids being allowed to have phones in school we wouldn’t even know about this story. How many other kids have been brutalized at the hands of people who are supposed to keep them safe?
Hopelessness won’t change policy. Be sad today and tomorrow continue the struggle until black lives really do matter.
Pop Off of the Week: Change.Org Petition vs. Raven Symone
Currently over 90,000 people have signed onto a petition to have Raven Symone removed from her post at The View. Many, including yours truly, have grown tired of her uninformed, ignorant and outrageous rants about the black community.
From our names being too ethnic to comparing FLOTUS to an ape and now coming to the aide of the resource officer who threw a young black girl across her classroom. The people have spoken and they have had enough. A snippet of the petition reads:
"African Americans and black people around the diaspora need a voice representative of their views and not a voice representative of what white people want us to say. We need strong black role models in prominent positions on television and Raven Symone cannot provide that. That is why I ask that we petition to remove her from The View."
Poliwood Round-Up: Trending Topics in the #BlackTwitterverse This Week

THREE: Halloween is NOT a Pass for Cultural Insensitivity
In a brilliant new video posted by Franchesca Ramsey for her MTV YouTube show Decoded she gives audiences a tip on how NOT to dress your kids for Halloween.
The video showcases real costumes that retailers and designers alike thought were appropriate, such as “harem girl”, “china boy”, “Mexican Amigo” and more. The results of her videos are both enlightening and hilarious. Note to parents don’t use other people’s culture as your costume!
TWO: Girls on FIRE
Not since 1980--before these two women were born--well before actually, has the reigning World All-Around Champion in women's gymnastics faced off against the Olympic All-Around Champion.
Well, when Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas took the stage in Glasgow this week we witnessed history on multiple accounts. Not only did Biles make history winning her third straight World All-Around title but also Gabby Douglas the Olympic golden girl nabbed the silver medal.
I love it when black girls shine:) Congrats ladies!

ONE: America's BEST Drinking Game
This week saw the third installment of America's Top GOP Candidate, aka the GOP Debate.
Who received the rose? Who got kicked off the island? Those results aren't in yet, but here are a few highlights: Trump carries a gun sometimes saying, "I like to be unpredictable", Ben Carson believes marriage is between one man and one woman, Carly Fiorina thinks she's Hillary's "worst nightmare", Mike Huckabee was rocking a Trump tie, and according to Marco Rubio the media is ultimate super PAC for Democrats.
You're welcome I just saved you 2 wasted hours you would never get back. Is it November 2016 yet?
