Congressman Joaquin Castro of Texas gave Jon Stewart of The Daily Show the kind of answer often given when donation seekers come knocking - I already gave.
Castro said in the appearance on the show Tuesday that he has given about $200,000 to fellow Democrats and “a bunch of money” to help with Texas Sen. Wendy Davis’ gubernatorial campaign and Battleground Texas, which is trying to turn Castro’s home state blue. All statewide elected offices in Texas are held by Republicans.
In a conference call with Democratic House members, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi badgered lawmakers to pay their dues to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for last-minute midterm election ads and get-out-the vote programs, Politico reported. Castro said he missed the call because he was getting ready for Stewart's show.
“Did she take attendance?” Stewart asked.
Castro also revealed his frustration with Congress when Stewart asked whether he and twin brother Housing Secretary Julian Castro ever switch places in Washington. “I wish I could send him over to Congress and I could go to HUD, but we haven’t. No,” Castro said.
Castro was a guest for Stewart’s “Democalypse 2014 South by South Mess” broadcast from Austin.
