New details are trickling out about the Boston bombing suspects, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. And while investigators try to piece together information from Dzhokhar as he recovers from gun shot wounds in a hospital bed, there are new reports that the elder Tsarnaev was entwined in a web of conspiracy theories. According to the Associated Press, Tamerlan visited Jihadist websites, including Al Qaeda in Yemen’s online English-language magazine, Inpsire. Among some of the other fringe ideas the now-dead suspect reportedly took an interest in were “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and the views of controversial talk show host, Alex Jones. Some of Jones’ theories include the idea that the U.S. trained, funded and protected Osama bin Laden, ordered the first World Trade Center attack and carried out the Oklahoma City bombing in order to pin it on the right flank. Jones, for his part, downplays any connection to the Boston bombings, claiming that the AP report was part of yet another government conspiracy. But whether or not such connections are legitimate or provable, the attacks of April 15 are now awakening the gently dozing beast that is the theory that terrorism stems from the Islamic faith. We’ll tackle conspiracies, radicalization, hate speech and more when we see you at noon ET on msnbc.
