Convicted murderer Jodi Arias has been ordered to pay more than $32,000 in restitution to the family of Travis Alexander.
Arias, 34, was sentenced to life in prison in April for the 2008 murder of her former boyfriend.
Neither Arias, nor any of Alexander's siblings, was at the hearing Monday in Maricopa County, Arizona.
After the hearing, Arias's defense attorney, Jennifer Willmott, said that the amount ordered was about one third of what the family had requested as compensation for travel, lodging, and other expenses related to Arias's trials. The defense had offered to pay the $32,000 to the Alexander family, after Willmott went through expense information provided by the family in their request for the restitution.
According to Prosecutor Juan Martinez, the family did not want to travel to take part in the hearing because they had suffered enough, so Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens awarded the $32,115.63 offered by the defense team.

If, and how, Arias will be able to pay, remains to be seen.
